It is not possible to say that roller doors are always the best solution when it comes to garages because personal preference will always play its part. Some people prefer the simplicity of a single-panel, up-and-over garage door, while others like the traditional look of hinged doors for their garage's entranceway. That said, roller garage doors undoubtedly afford some advantages that other systems do not. What are they, and why might you consider roller doors for your garage design?

Improved Security

When you opt for roller doors, they will provide an additional layer of security that helps to keep intruders at bay. The majority of roller doors are made from interlocking sections of metal that form an almost impenetrable barrier when they are in their downward position. Usually, tough steel or aluminium is used which you cannot prise apart. Potential weak spot, such as the ends of the slats will be protected further by a rim, which means you cannot get a crowbar in from the side. Only when roller doors are raised do their slats unlock from one another, allowing them to be moved upwards with ease. Simply by fitting a roller garage door, your property will be more secure and you could even find your insurance costs are reduced as a result of such an installation.

Keep Bugs at Bay

When you have a roller door dropped, a tight seal is made. This is helpful not just because it is hard to break in but also because winged insects won't be able to fly inside. Single-panel garage doors often have a gap at the bottom and at the sides through which bugs can easily gain access. This is not so with roller doors. Bear in mind that a tighter seal is not just good for keeping out unwanted insects; it also means that sand, dust and even rain cannot get blown inside under high winds, too, thereby helping to protect the contents of your garage.

Space-Saving

Compared to hinged garage doors, ones that roll up onto themselves are much better. Roller doors go up and down vertically, so you don't need any space in front of your garage to be able to go in and out. This is good if you have limited room on your driveway, for example, and want to park a second car right in front of the garage's entrance. Equally, because they roll up on a spindle, less overhead room is needed inside compared with a conventional up-and-over garage door. That means there is more storage room available to use inside your garage as well.
